Avani Lekhara Makes History as First Indian Woman to Win Two Paralympic Golds

At the Paris 2024 Paralympics on Friday, Avani Lekhara created history by successfully defending her title in the women's 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1 event. She made history at the Paralympics by becoming the first Indian woman to win two gold medals.

Lekhara broke the Paralympic record in the final with an outstanding performance of 249.7. Her previous record of 249.6 was set at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Avani Lekhara, 22, who became wheelchair-bound after a car accident at 11, made history as the first Indian woman shooter to win medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. She has now also become the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Paralympic Games.
